Mehndi or Henna is one of the integral part Indian beauty on her wedding day or festival days. It’s an ancient art of painting hands and legs with Mehndi, which forms an integral part of Indian culture. Usually it forms a Mehndi ceremony, just before the wedding day, with all the ladies gathering together to apply Mehndi to bride as well as to each other.

There is a wide variety of Mehndi designs or patterns and each one of them want their desings to be unique and beautiful. Apart from Indian Mehndi desings, there are Arabic Mehndi designs and Pakistani Mehndi designs. Lets take a look at different type of designs and patterns.

There are various patterns used like flowers, peacocks, leaves, swirly vines mangoes, geometrical figures, butterflies, free hand drawing and abstract designs.

Mehndi made darker by tea and lime.

Method of applying Mehndi:
Henna or Mehndi leaves are first grinded to dust and mixed with usually black tea and mustard oil to form a thick paste. This paste is then poured into a plastic cone with a sharp tip with a tiny hole. Now the mehndi design is made on the hand and its a skill to make it unique and beautiful. After around 7 to 9 hours later, when Mehndi is dry, a little water mixed with sugar and lemon is sprinkled to get a darker print. And after a few hours the Mehndi is washed out with water and you will see a nice beautiful Mehndi design for hands and legs.
